its walls & split over six levels... complete with the hangman’s noose

Bodmin Beacon is dominated by the monument erected to Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert
in 1857 and from here you get a spectacular view over Bodmin & beyond. The Beacon
Field itself is a popular public open space featuring relict heathland and ancient
Cornish Wrestling ring. Adjoining this and spreading out into the wider countryside
the reserve also encompasses managed hay meadows and a community woodland planted
in 1993.
The Camel Trail is an 18 mile surfaced and virtually level multi use trail which
passes through some of the most spectacular countryside in the south west. It follows
the disused railway line once used by the London and South West Railway, cycle or
walk from Bodmin right through the centre of Wadebridge & along the Camel Estuary
to Padstow. Alternatively wind your way inland to the foot of Bodmin Moor where
the trail comes to an end at Poley’s Bridge near Blisland (& the famous
Blisland Inn). You can hire your bike here in Bodmin.
Lanhydrock is the perfect
country house and estate, with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home.
Follow in the footsteps of generations of the Robartes family who were Bodmin’s
benefactors, walking in the 17th-century Long Gallery among the rare book collection
under the remarkable plasterwork ceiling. Boasting the best in country-house design
and planning, the kitchens, nurseries and servants' quarters offer a thrilling glimpse
into life 'below stairs', while the spacious dining room and bedrooms are truly
and deeply elegant.
